See Who Did What: the Forage Log
2 min read · Last updated · Page version 2
Purpose: answer "who changed this, when, and why", "who opened this document" and "who exported that report", for your own review or for an auditor.
- Open Records, then Log. The newest entries are at the top, 50 to a page; use Older and Newer to move between pages.
- Each entry shows when it happened, what kind of action it was, who did it, what it was done to and the reason given. Where there is a page for the target (a setting, a rule, a label, a site, the reports), its name is a link; a document opens in place.
- Press the arrow at the start of an entry to see the value before and after the change, and the full detail recorded with it.
- To narrow the list, choose one or more types (settings, rules, labels, sites, data resets, documents opened, reports exported, searches), type part of a person's name or email, type any text (a setting, a label, a site, a reason or a search term), set a date range, and press Show.
- Press Export PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog, or Export CSV for a spreadsheet. Both take up to 1,000 entries under the filters you chose.
Good to know: The Log is append-only within the product: entries cannot be changed or removed through Forage, and clearing Forage's data to read the estate again keeps them. It is not write-once storage: someone with direct access to the database could still alter it. Opening a document and exporting a report, including exporting the Log itself, are recorded too, though not while a supporting service is down, so the record of openings and exports is not guaranteed complete. Sign-ins to the portal are not recorded.
The Log does not record search results, only the words searched for and who searched. That is deliberate: recording results would copy sensitive content into the Log.
See what each page shows for the rest of the Records section, and limitations for what Forage does not do.
