Create and Edit Forage Labels
2 min read · Last updated · Page version 1
Where content classification is enabled on a deployment.
Purpose: set up the labels that say what a document contains.
- Open Records, then Labels, and press New label.
- Give it a Name, choose a Category (or New category, in lower case), choose a Severity (Routine, Low, Medium, High or Highest), add a Description, and press Create label. Nothing is examined until a content rule records the label and is activated.
- To change a label, press the pencil Edit button on its card, change the fields and press Save. A new category or severity shows at once on every document; nothing is examined again.
- If you change the name or description of a label that has already found documents, Forage asks what happens to them: keep the old wording on documents already found, or give them all the new wording. Give a reason, then press Rename or Save.
- To retire a label, press Edit, then Retire, and give a reason. Everything found under it stays listed under Retired labels, and no new rule version can record it. Retire is refused while an active rule records the label: retire that rule version on Content Rules first.
- To bring a label back, open Retired labels, press Edit on it, then Reinstate.
- To delete a label, press Edit, then Delete, and give a reason. Delete is offered only for a label nothing has ever used: no rule version names it, no document carries it, and it was not supplied with Forage. Otherwise the window says why, and you retire it instead, so what was found stays explained.
- To see a label's past, press Edit, then History: every change, with who made it, when and why. Label changes also appear on the Activity page.
Good to know: a label says what a document contains, never how long it is kept. If a label comes to mean something different, create a new label rather than renaming the old one.
See what each page shows for the rest of the Records section, and limitations for what Forage does not do.
