Squirrel documentation

SharePoint Online storage is expensive, and most of what fills it is not being used. Squirrel moves inactive documents out of SharePoint into your own Azure Blob Storage on lifecycle policies you define - without users losing the file, the link, or the ability to get it back themselves.

What a user sees. An archived document is replaced by a lightweight stub carrying the original filename, metadata and dates. Clicking it restores the file - no ticket, no waiting on IT. Stubs appear in SharePoint on the web, in OneDrive sync on Windows and Mac, and in Microsoft Teams, and the OneDrive sync client keeps working normally rather than throwing sync errors. Archived content stays indexed by SharePoint Search and remains reachable by Microsoft Copilot.

Where the data goes. Into an Azure Blob Storage account in your subscription, in the region you choose, encrypted and compressed. SmiKar never holds a copy. That matters beyond privacy: if you stop using Squirrel, your archive is still yours and still readable - there is no vendor store to be locked out of.

Nutshell adds AI document summaries to the stub itself, so an archived file remains meaningful at a glance and stays useful as grounding for Copilot rather than becoming an opaque placeholder.
