Install Snapshot Master

3 min read

This guide walks every step of installing Snapshot Master on a Windows machine. Allow 10 to 15 minutes from a clean machine.

When the installer finishes, the Connect Hypervisors flow takes over — that is the next read.

Before you start

Confirm you have:

  • A Windows machine where you have local administrator rights.
  • An internet connection (the installer may download prerequisites).
  • The Snapshot Master installer from your trial request or licence email.

Step 1: Request and download

Visit the Snapshot Master product page and request a trial. Smikar emails you the download link. Save the installer to a folder you can find again.

Step 2: Launch the installer

Double-click the installer executable. The Setup Wizard launches and scans your machine for prerequisites. Missing components (typically .NET runtime, PowerShell modules for VMware / Hyper-V / Azure as applicable) are flagged and the wizard offers to install them.

Step 3: Accept the Smikar licence

Read the Smikar Software Licence Terms, tick the acceptance checkbox, click Next.

Step 4: Choose the install folder

The default location is C:\Program Files\SmiKar Software\Snapshot Master\. Change it via the folder picker if needed. Click Next.

Step 5: Confirm and install

The wizard summarises your selections. Click Install to begin. The install copies files and registers the application.

Step 6: Finish

A success message appears. A reboot is recommended after first install. Click Close.

First launch and trial activation

Find Snapshot Master in the Start menu and launch it. On first launch you are prompted to enter your trial or licence details (the activation key in your email). Enter the key, accept the trial terms, and click Activate.

The 30-day trial clock starts on activation. The activation also unlocks all platform integrations — VMware, Hyper-V, and Azure — for the trial duration.

What to do next

After activation, you are prompted to add your first hypervisor connection. See Connect Hypervisors for the per-platform setup.

Troubleshooting

Windows blocks the installer with a SmartScreen warning. Click More info then Run anyway, or right-click the file → Properties → tick Unblock.

A prerequisite failed to install. Re-run the installer; prerequisite detection re-runs and only installs what is missing.

Trial activation fails. Confirm you entered the exact key from the email and that your Windows clock is reasonably accurate. Repeated failures: contact support@smikar.com.
